Street Art

I have been saving up some interesting examples of street art. Although there is graffiti on the walls of some buildings there seems to be an alliance between the street artists and the taggers – one artistic discipline seems to coexist with the other.

There is an anonymous artist known only as “Blub” who is responsible for the scuba mask art. I stumbled across a store that sells what they claim are originals of this art. There is a interview with “Blub” at www.tianakai.com which seems inconsistent with sales of his work at an art store. The interview says he has posted his art all offer the world. I guess that does not include Eugene, OR.

Sometimes architectural features just speak to the artist. I did not see this in that wall but there it is for all to see.

No blank space is too small.

And the founders of our fair city were not exempt from some old time street art. A surprise, the Post Office had a couple wild thoughts to offer.

Just to prove the Post Office has had a sense of humor for centuries. We will provide a mail slot but try to use it.

And now some photos of the jewelry construction techniques I have been focusing on this year. On my last visit the theme was to create some pieces of jewelry out of my design book and designs stolen from others to build my confidence that I could actually build something using simple construction methods. This year I have focused on learning new techniques. The project below followed on the first project by focusing on connecting curves but having everything end up in a plane that is pleasing to the eye. This project then went a step further and eliminated solder from the joining of metals instead used a process of fusion or misnamed as welding. This then led to a last technique called Keim Boo. It is a Japanese or Korean technique that actually gets gold and silver to combine as a single metal. I am still working on that process and forgot to take pictures.

As I waited for metals to cool or soak in acid to clean them I worked on a bracelet for a friend. It has not been through a final polish yet. I won’t tell you what the design is on the bracelet so I can see if he can figure it out.

More food and more fun for all (oh, and some wine.)

Now it is time to start packing. Don’t tell Sally but I just bought a box from MailBox’s Inc to send my dirty clothes home. If I come home I am sure the box will follow by several weeks so I will get to do the laundry.

Ciao!!
