Yes, It Is Good to be a Medici

A warm day on the veranda

The governing body for the Republic of Florence was known as the Signoria. They worked and lived in the Vecchio which overlooked the Piazza dela Signoria.

The Medici family was so involved in the government of Florence and the Vatican that most of the Florence tax and fee monies but also the almost total Vatican offerings and business dealings of the Pope. I won’t get into it here, but of all of the buildings they lived in this was one of the smaller residences. You can see how a family could get a little cramped for space in these houses. Interestingly the building that my apartment is in was the birth place of Pope Urban VIII.

The beginning of Street Art

Well I cannot help myself. There is more new street art than I can absorb. I guess Covid kept people local and enhanced the inventory of street art. It has gotten deeper as well, there is a lot I don’t understand. I will start collecting samples for me to digitally curate.

Another tid bit I had put in my journal but forgot to enter it into the blog.

I was exploring last nigt at sunset when a lady, speaking a language new to me, asked me if I could direct her to the Duomo. The Duomo is a church you can see from outer space let alone in the city. That is the first time anyone has sought me out with a question that probably 95% of the people eavesdropping on the conversation could have answered. Before responding I was already calculating how many people were getting ready to clap me on the back after answering the question with confidence. I gave the map a good look and started to answer with “Ma’am I am a retired Army sergeant … and the next thing I know she has grabbed the map out of my hand, said “you American and headed off to another group. Out of all of the Italians – she asked me!!!
